Yesterday, February 2nd, Williams Arena, aka “The Barn” celebrated its 90th Anniversary.
Now that I have a son attending the University of Minnesota (U of M), I’m more aware of the wonderful things happening at this great University.
This historic building, known for its uniquely raised floor, first opened its doors in 1928. It has been the home to the U of M Golden Gophers men’s and women’s basketball teams over the years.
Here in Carver County, MN, just 40 minutes west of the Twin Cities; we have historic barns as well. Much different in size and purpose, but sharing historic age similarities.
Many of our barns have beautiful barn quilts prominently displayed on them. Barn Quilts are quilt patterns drawn to scale, painted on wooden panels and hung on exterior walls of historic barns. These beautiful pieces of artwork highlight the art of quilting while showcasing Carver County’s historic agricultural icons.
Barn Quilt Tours, offers guided tours travelling the countryside, viewing the barn quilts and other places of interest, including wineries, breweries, a distillery, orchard and creamery.
Spend a day with us to visit our open air gallery of art while touring the countryside of Carver County, MN.
Do you have a family farm? Barn? How old is it? My family barn is just 57, but I can trace our family farm land back 150+ years.
I love barns. I love barn quilts. I’m a basketball Mom. I hope to see you on a tour.
