Welcome to the Hollander Farm, where family and tradition date back to 1863!
My family originated from Echt, Holland. Upon arriving in the U.S., they eventually made their way to our farm in Cologne, MN.
Today, history continues, as I, a fifth generation family member, along with my husband and sons, own a five acre site of the original farm.
The barn built in 1962 remains standing. While it hasn’t been used for dairy farming since my parent’s retirement, after our restoration efforts, it now serves as a gathering place for family, friends and tour guests.
American barns are disappearing from the landscape. The Barn Quilts of Carver County, MN project is an outdoor gallery that captures the farm stories, the art of quilting, while giving a nod to our agricultural roots. My “Triple Tulip” pattern is in honor of my Dutch heritage. My barn is open for all barn quilt tours, or by appointment for other groups.
Come in, visit and see our antique displays, history vignettes, the milkhouse (turned into a fully functional summer kitchen) and our Souvenirwinkel (Gift Shop in Dutch)!
Or, enjoy a relaxing stroll through the floral gardens. The sunflower field was planted in 2023 – a flower I always wanted! They are beautiful and bring smiles to all. I love walking amongst them with the bees and butterflies – and yes, I even talk to them.
I’m learning more each year and learned early on that young sunflowers track the sun. Their face will follow the sun from sunrise to sunset every day and keep repeating this until they mature. Mature sunflowers face East – they are more productively warmed and can attract up to five times more pollinators.
Reserve a date on the deck and enjoy the view while “Sippin on Sunshine”.
