The Barn Quilts of Carver County, MN announces its new Signature Tour for 2021
The 2021 Barn Quilts of Carver County Tour Season has officially started and with a brand new tour! Join us for
“The Hometown Hollander Tour” on
Friday, June 11, 2021. We’ve joined forces with Chuck Thiel and
Community Club Tours for this one – see his website info for full details! We’ll also be stopping at
The Granary in Hamburg, a picturesque farm site hosting one of the original barn quilts, an expanded occasional store including an art studio and variety of gifts and modern home decor. In addition, we’ll see their ever-growing group of fun goats and alpacas.
We’ll also visit the home of a professional gardener, who has worked at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum for 30+ years, designing its gardens and selecting the annual color scheme for the 39,000 tulips that adorn the property. He has one of the new barn quilts, with colors that accent his barn, house and gardens that grace his 2.5 acre home.
We’ll spend the afternoon in the Cologne, MN area, which is the hometown to our Tour Guide (Janet Fahey) and her Hollander Home Farm. There, we’ll see two large barn quilts with tulip Hollander themes and a new barn door mural. The family was busy in 2020 with barn renovations and a new barn roof. Barn Quilt gifts, new books and souvenirs will be available in their renovated “Souvenirwinkel” Gift Shop.
Peonies may be in bloom along the way on the tour route! One of our last stops of the day will be at the Sunny Hill Farm, a beautiful country estate on the outskirts of Cologne, which hosts one of the few remaining historic round barns in the State. The grounds of this farm site are extraordinary, along with the quaint barn quilt that graces an outdoor building leading up the estate driveway.
Our day wouldn’t be complete without an ice cream stop at Bongards Creamery. A “Holstein Mural” greets guests as they enter the retail store. You can shop their full selection of cheese including those all-time favorite cheese curds. A group photo may be in line with “Bonnie”, their 20 foot tall fiberglass cow. She loves visitors and is extremely photogenic, always ready to hop into your tour photo.
You won’t want to miss it! (COVID safety measures will be in place).
